Sam asked me to make some wild predictions about recent trade rumors surrounding the Brewers and a main line pitcher. Well, if this STORY from MLB Trade Rumors is correct, then my prediction will have to be no one.
As the story mentions there had supposedly been whispered words about Peavy and Cliff Lee, but that seems to be incorrect. I had even heard Eric Bedard's name tossed around, but if we are to believe Melvin (and he's been pretty legit in the past) then the Brewers aren't shopping too hard or at least they don't want to appear to be shopping too hard.
With the demotion of Para on Saturday (thank god) it would seem as though the Crew need to find someone. However, with upcoming off days, accroding to the Yahoo Sports Team Report, they won't need a 5th starter for at least 2 weeks. In any case, we know McClung is available, if not particularly always suitable.
The Crew will start their three-game series against Cleveland on ESPN tonight.

The Gerut for Gwynn deal and the Catalanotto signings came with little or no buzz. I honestly expect a trade before or around the time Parra gets back (if he does) to the majors. Dillard is not really an option, he has a 4.23 ERA in AAA, I'd expect Parra to put up better AAA numbers. I give it 15 days until a huge* trade is dropped.
ReplyDelete* indicates nowhere near as huge as CC
All signs point towards Bedard. And am I the only one still missing Gwynn?
ReplyDeleteInteresting post by Haudricourt this morning on the jsonline blog. I wonder how much "politics" he has in mind because he said he spoke with Melvin recently. There are really only 3 NL teams out of it right now, Arizona, Padres and Nationals. I doubt the Nats are going to dump any of their young pitching staff, and we'd have to get rid of JJ or Hart to get a Dan Haren type of player, but what about Doug Davis???
ReplyDeleteI would also like to note that I made the Doug Davis comment before BrewCrewBall made it obvious...
